Sports MassageSessions Available: 30, 60 minute
The goal of sports massage is to enhance the performance potential of athletes. Sports massage combines a variety of modalities in order to reduce myofascial restrictions, increase available range of motion, increase hyperemic response, increase circulation, decrease anxiety and stress, decrease muscle soreness, minimize the effects of stress and strain from training on the body, enhance recovery time, and reduce the risk of injury. There are three categories of sports massage, event, preventative/maintenance, and treatment/rehabilitative. |
Event Sports Massage
Event sports massage is done on the day of the event and is incorporated into the warm up and cool down routines. It is usually 10-30 minutes and the intent is to help the athlete prepare for and recover from activity. It does not replace the athlete’s warm-up.
Preventative and Maintenance Sports Massage
Preventative and maintenance sports massage is a moderately paced massage that uses relatively deep and more specific techniques to decrease the minor aches and pains that result from athletic training and physical activity in order to reduce the risk of repetitive stress injuries, relax muscles and keep the athlete performing at the optimal level.
Treatment and Rehabilitative Sports Massage
Treatment and rehabilitative sports massage is designed to treat musculoskeletal injuries or conditions to enhance the recovery and healing process.
