Orthopedic/treatment massage incorporates a variety of techniques to treat specific injuries or chronic painful conditions. The therapist chooses techniques based on the condition being treated and the stage of healing of the injury. The goal of treatment massage is to reduce pain, reduce inflammation, improve range of motion, restore the ablity to return to normal activities of daily living, and reduce the healing time so that clients can return to work and other activities. The treatment may include hot or cold therapies to reduce pain and speed recovery. A series of massage treatments at specific intervals is usually recommended to assist in the healing process. For treatment work it is recommended that clients bring shorts and a tank top or sports bra (for women) because treatment massage includes more postural assessment increased client movement on the table.
